Christine de Pizan and the Book of the Queen – Manuscript Now Online

Great news from the British Library, they have announced the recent upload of Christine de Pizan’s Book of the Queen (Harley MS 4431) to their Digitised Manuscripts site.

Christine de Pizan is widely regarded as one of Europe’s earliest female professional authors. The largest extant collection of her writing can be found in Harley MS 4431.

The British Library has plans to exhibit the Book of the Queen in the Sir John Ritblat Treasures Gallery.

The Paideia Institute, Living Latin in Paris – Call For Applications

The Paideia Institute announces a new Living Latin Program in Paris this winter, December 27, 2013-January 4, 2014. This program is designed to immerse students in the Latin of the Middle Ages. For one week, students will read passages from medieval literature, philosophy, poetry, and letters. There will also be visits to medieval sites in and around Paris, offering students the change to experience the culture of medieval France while improving their Latin and broadening their knowledge of Latin literature. Instructors will include Papal Latinist Msgr. Daniel Gallagher and Dr. Nancy Llewellyn of SALVI, the co-sponsor of this event.
