The College wishes to recruit a Lecturer in Renaissance Literature (Education and Scholarship). This post is available from 01 September 2016 to 30th June 2017.

The post will include teaching the level 3 module “Life and Death in Early Modern Literature” and the level 2 module “Desire and Power: English Literature 1570-1640”. It may also involve teaching the level 1 modules, “Rethinking Shakespeare” and “The Poem”.

The successful applicant will possess sufficient breadth or depth of specialist and core knowledge in the discipline, demonstrated by a PhD or equivalent in Renaissance Literature to develop teaching programmes, and teach and support learning in this academic area. They will use a range of delivery techniques to enthuse and engage students. They will participate in and develop external networks, for example to contribute to student recruitment, secure student placements, facilitate outreach work, generate income, obtain consultancy projects, or build relationships for future activities.

The successful applicant will have evidence of excellent teaching identified by peer review and have made an impact at discipline programme level beyond their own teaching. Staff at this level are expected to work towards Fellow of the HEA status and to attend formal CPD relating to this.

To be successful in the role you will have a PhD in a relevant discipline and possess demonstrated relevant academic experience. You will also possess:

  • Evidence of high quality and/or high impact research conducted and published, relative to opportunity;
  • Sound analytical skills with an ability to communicate complex information clearly in English both orally and in writing;
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, or co-supervise, honours and postgraduate students;

You will contribute to teaching, administration and pastoral care, in Venice during the Autumn term and at Warwick from January 2017. You will support the work of the department and develop and enhance its teaching reputation, both internally and externally.

You will have a PhD in a relevant area and an interest in current research in your field that will enhance your teaching capabilities.

We are seeking candidates working in Venetian Art & Architecture (1400-1600). The Department of History in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of Winchester is looking for two highly motivated historians to work on a project entitled ‘Kingship, Court and Society: the Chamber Books of Henry VII and Henry VIII, 1485-1521’.

The two year project was awarded funding by the Leverhulme Trust in March 2016. It will be based at the University of Winchester, but will also involve The National Archives and Sheffield Humanities Research Institute. The project will transcribe the Chamber Books of Henry VII and Henry VIII and use electronic mark-up to produce a fully searchable and freely accessible online edition, for academics and the general public, and use this as a basis for a major reassessment of early Tudor kingship, government and financial administration, daily life and the religious and material culture of the court.

As our ideal candidate, you will have a doctorate and expertise in late medieval/early Tudor palaeography. You will have a track record of publication on politics, government, the court or material culture in the early Tudor period. IT literacy, good interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively are also essential.

Overview:
The Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research (GCSCR) is a broad-based humanities and social science research centre operating within Griffith University’s Arts, Education & Law Group. The Griffith Centre for Social and Cultural Research seeks an outstanding recent doctoral graduate to conduct high quality internationally relevant research, while also building the research capacity and performance of the Centre.

These are fixed term (three years), full time positions based at the Nathan or Gold Coast campuses.

The Role:
The Research Fellow will carry out high-quality, internationally relevant research while also building the research capacity and performance of the Centre. To achieve these dual aims, the successful candidate will pursue a twin-track of activities, developing their own post-doctoral research project while also spending a portion of their time developing research projects which align with the Centre’s core focus, and seeking grant funds. The University of Birmingham wishes to appoint a Lecturer in Early Modern Drama and Shakespeare with effect from 1st September 2016. We seek an early career academic with a completed and examined PhD, and a developing record of research and teaching that will complement existing strengths in both the Shakespeare Institute and the Department of English Literature. The post-holder will be expected to create and disseminate knowledge through initiating and conducting original research, through publication and through developing and delivering undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

The post-holder will be based in the School of English, Drama, and American and Canadian Studies (EDACS), reporting directly to the Head of School, and will be expected to contribute to teaching in the Department of English Literature, the Shakespeare Institute, and to take responsibility for leading our new programme of summer schools based in Stratford-upon-Avon. The successful applicant will demonstrate the academic credibility, initiative and organizational skills necessary to take the lead in co-ordinating a series of two week summer schools, two of which will be in Shakespeare Studies and the remainder of which will be led by colleagues in Drama and Creative Writing.

The post-holder will work with academic, technical and professional staff to develop the programming, marketing and teaching methods which will be vital to the success of these summer schools. Teaching load will be managed throughout the year by the Head of School in recognition of the expectation that the appointee will be very active in teaching and administration over the summer period.

The post-holder will work between the Shakespeare Institute in Stratford-upon-Avon and the Department of English Literature on the University of Birmingham’s Edgbaston campus.

This position results from the creation of an expanded digital humanities base in the ANU Centre for Digital Humanities Research, the Centre for Heritage and Museum Studies, the Centre for Art History and Theory, and the Research School of Humanities and the Arts.
