All Souls College invites applications for up to five Post-Doctoral Research Fellowships in the following subjects: Life Sciences; Theoretical Physical Sciences (broadly defined); Classical Studies; Modern Languages; Literature in English; and Philosophy. Those elected will be expected to take up their Fellowships on 1 October, 2017 or such other date as may be agreed in advance with the College. The Fellowship are for five years, fixed-term, and non-renewable.

The Fellowships are intended to offer opportunities for outstanding early career researchers to establish a record of independent research. But, while the primary duty of a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow is the completion of a significant body of independent research for publication, they are also encouraged to undertake appropriate teaching and supervision of research in the University, develop their curriculum vitae, and improve their prospects of obtaining a permanent academic position by the end of the Fellowship.

Applicants must have been awarded their doctorates after 1 August, 2014 or expect to have been awarded their doctorate by 1 October, 2017. (The successful candidates must have completed their doctorates by the time they take up their Fellowships.) Candidates must be able to demonstrate both through their thesis and other work published or submitted for publication, their capacity to undertake original publishable academic research in their chosen field. Where they have been working as part of a team, the College will wish to understand the significance of the candidate’s particular contribution to jointly authored papers.

RMIT: Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellowships – Call For Applications

Our annual fellowship scheme is aligned with the RMIT strategic plan and our eight Enabling Capability Platforms. Successful applicants will be offered either a Vice-Chancellor’s Senior Research Fellowship or a Vice-Chancellor’s Research Fellowship, dependent on the applicant’s level of experience and track record.

Senior Research Fellows and Research Fellows plan, develop and engage in high quality, impactful research projects, which address local, national, regional and global challenges. Our Fellows will be expected to attract external research funding including competitive grants from both national and international sources, and produce high quality outputs.

Our Fellows are located within our academic Schools. Research Fellows will embed his/her research expertise into the life of the School through building research networks with local and national, internal and external partners. Fellows may undertake limited teaching duties linked to their active research projects, to promote student engagement and further embed research activity in teaching.

Victoria University of Wellington: Lecturer in Media Studies – Call For Applications

The School of English, Film, Theatre, and Media Studies at Victoria University of Wellington invites applications for a permanent position for a Lecturer in Media Studies, to begin in February 2017. The appointee will have the opportunity to contribute to a vibrant programme in Media Studies at Victoria, and to other academic and creative communities in Wellington, Aotearoa/New Zealand.

The Media Studies Programme aims to appoint a dynamic junior scholar who complements the current staff?s expertise and who can contribute to teaching and research in one or more of the following areas: popular culture; media and creative industries; and interactive media. The ability to teach large introductory courses is essential.

The successful candidate will have a PhD in Media Studies or closely related field, a record of scholarly productivity, and the capacity to teach a broad range of introductory and advanced Media Studies courses, as well as supervise MA and PhD candidates.

Princeton Society of Fellows: 2017-2020 Fellowship Competition – Call For Applications

The Princeton Society of Fellows, an interdisciplinary group of scholars in the humanities, social sciences, and selected natural sciences, invites applications for the 2017-2020 Fellowship competition.

Four three-year Postdoctoral Fellowships will be awarded this year. The stipend for each of the three years of the fellowship will be approximately $84,500. In addition, fellows are provided with a shared office, a personal computer, a research account of $5,000 a year, access to university grants, benefits and other resources.

Fellows are expected to reside in or near Princeton during the academic year in order to attend weekly seminars and participate fully in the intellectual life of the Society.

All candidates will be informed of the status of their application by the end of January, 2017. Interviews will take place in early February. The Society will reimburse the cost of travel and lodging associated with the interview. Names of fellowship winners will be posted on the Society of Fellows’ website in July 2017.

The University of Bristol’s Department of Theatre and Performance seeks a full-time Teaching Fellow for a fixed term of 34 months from 1st September 2016. The postholder will be expected to contribute to and develop the department’s provision of the teaching of Theatre and Performance at undergraduate level.

Noted for the significance and reach of research undertaken by staff, the Department of Theatre and Performance is a leading department in its discipline. It achieved excellent ratings in RAE 2008 and REF 2014. The successful applicant will join staff that work in a broad range of areas across the history and practice of theatre and performance.

The postholder would be expected to teach a range of topics including the history of theatre and performance; introductions to theatre analysis and to key theories of theatre and performance; theatre, performance and politics; staging and interpreting text; supervision of independent dissertation, practice and placement projects. The Department of History seeks to appoint a full-time Teaching Fellow in Early Modern European History. You will take seminars on the second-year undergraduate module ‘The European World, 1500-1750’ and you will take seminars on the first-year undergraduate module ‘Making History’, for a total of nine seminar groups of approximately fourteen students per group. You will also teach occasional lectures for other undergraduate modules as required by the Head of Department and as appropriate to subject knowledge.

You will undertake lecturing, seminar teaching, essay tutorials, office hours, marking of undergraduate work, exam invigilation, and monitoring of student attendance in accordance with the Department’s quality assurance practices. You will also act as personal tutor to an assigned group of undergraduate students, providing pastoral support and guidance during the academic year. You will be actively engaged in research in early modern European history, or a comparable field.

You will possess experience in undergraduate teaching and subject specialism appropriate for research-led teaching in early modern European history. You should also possess a PhD (or equivalent) in History.

The Institute of English Studies (IES) is seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Book History and communications, broadly defined as the history of the book, the history of publishing, and the history of communications, especially literary communications. The IES wishes to expand an area of strength established under the direction of Professor Simon Eliot. The appointee must be able to contribute to the MA in the History of Book, but we seek an individual with fresh ideas to enlarge our provision.

The IES is one of nine specialist Institutes in the School of Advanced Study at the University of London. Based in Senate House in Bloomsbury, the Institute has dedicated facilities, use of the Senate House Library and special collections, and a considerable Research Fellowship.

It is committed to developing expert research, postgraduate teaching and research, and to becoming a national and international centre for the modern study of English. Its recently-appointed Director is Professor Rick Rylance.

Professor Rylance (rick.rylance@sas.ac.uk) and/or Professor Eliot (simon.eliot@sas.ac.uk) will be willing to discuss the role with potential applicants.

Requirements

To be considered for this role, you must have a demonstrable record of research appropriate to career stage with significant current projects in the relevant field. You will have teaching experience at an appropriate level and a commitment to postgraduate teaching and research.

Note: This appointment will be made at either Lecturer (Grade 8) or Senior Lecturer (Grade 9) level, dependent upon experience.

The call for applications in 2016, for commencement in 2017, refers to a targeted research-only fellowship with two streams:

  1. Early Career Researcher Fellowship: Suitably qualified applicants who have been awarded a PhD on or after 1 March 2011.
  2. Senior Research Fellowship: Suitably qualified applicants with more than five years post-doctoral experience.

Curtin Indigenous Research Fellowships

Australian indigenous applicants are encouraged to apply for a Curtin Indigenous Research Fellowship in one of the above two streams. Kindly note that Aboriginality is an inherent requirement of the Indigenous Research Fellowship position per Section 50(d) of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.
