2019 Catharine R. Stimpson Prize for Outstanding Feminist Scholarship

The University of Chicago Press and Signs: Journal of Women in Culture and Society are pleased to announce the competition for the 2019 Catharine R. Stimpson Prize for Outstanding Feminist Scholarship. Named in honor of the founding editor of Signs, the Stimpson Prize is designed to recognize excellence and innovation in the work of emerging feminist scholars.

The Stimpson Prize is awarded biennially to the best paper in an international competition. Leading feminist scholars from around the globe will select the winner. The prizewinning paper will be published in Signs, and the author will be provided an honorarium of $1,000. All papers submitted for the Stimpson Prize will be considered for peer review and possible publication in Signs.

Eligibility: Feminist scholars in the early years of their careers (fewer than seven years since receipt of the terminal degree) are invited to submit papers for the Stimpson Prize. This includes current graduate students. Papers may be on any topic that falls under the broad rubric of interdisciplinary feminist scholarship. Submissions must be no longer than 10,000 words (including notes and references) and must conform to the guidelines for Signs contributors (http://www.journals.uchicago.edu/journals/signs/instruct).

Deadline for Submissions: March 1, 2018.

English: the Journal of the English Association: Postgraduate Essay Prize – Call For Applications

The editors of English: the Journal of the English Association are very pleased to initiate in 2017 the opening of an annual essay competition exclusive to postgraduates. We are looking for essays that provide new perspectives on canonical and/or non-canonical Anglophone literatures, and therefore welcome submissions that focus on single author/texts or a range, and which develop original arguments beyond simple close reading, while engaging with recent scholarship in relevant fields.

The competition is open to any postgraduate student who is registered on a doctoral programme at any institution anywhere in the world, by, or within three months of, the submission deadline: September 30, 2017.

2017 Mary Boyd Prize – Call For Applications

The New Zealand Historical Association is calling for submissions to be considered for the 2017 Mary Boyd Prize.

Named in memory of the Pacific historian Mary Beatrice Boyd (1921–2010), this award is for the best article on any aspect of New Zealand history published in a refereed journal.

To be eligible, nominated articles must have been published between 2 April 2015 and 1 April 2017. (This includes online publication of the final article by a refereed journal.)

To enter, authors should email a print-ready PDF copy of the article along with publication details to jennifer.ashton@auckland.ac.nz with the subject line ‘Mary Boyd Prize Entry’.

Individuals may enter only one article. If you do not enter the competition yourself, you are welcome to nominate an article by another author by following the same process.
Entries close at 5pm, 31 July 2017.

Royal Studies Journal: Two Annual Prizes – Nominations Now Open

The Royal Studies Journal is delighted that nominations are open for its two annual prizes – one for the best new book in the field and another to recognize new research from students and early career scholars.

The prize scheme is funded by a generous grant from Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU). Each prize is worth £50 and will be awarded at the Kings and Queens 6 conference in Madrid in September 2017.

Completed nominations must be submitted by no later than 15 May, 2017.

2017 CHASS Australia Prizes – Call For Nominations

2017 will mark the fourth year of the annual CHASS Australia Prizes. The Australia Prizes honour distinguished achievements by Australians working, studying, or training in the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (HASS) sectors, including academics, practitioners, philanthropists, policy makers, and students.

Nominations have now opened for four prizes. Two prizes are sponsored by Routledge (cash prize of $3,500 each): one for a non-fiction book/e-book that enriches Australian cultural and intellectual life, the second for ‘Distinctive Work’- an exceptional artistic performance, exhibition, film, television show, play, composition or practical contribution to arts policy. The third prize (cash prize of $2,000) is sponsored by Future Leaders for a ‘Future Leader’, an individual under 30 years of age who is demonstrating leadership skill and potential in the arts, humanities and social sciences. The Co-Op has sponsored the fourth prize ($500 voucher) for a student essay, exhibition, performance or project in any HASS area.

Society for the Study of Early Modern Women Prizes 2017 – Call For Applications

The Society for the Study of Early Modern Women seeks nominations for awards for scholarly work published/completed in the previous year. Any work on women and gender in the early modern period (ca. 1450-1750) is eligible.

Australian Academy of the Humanities: Grants and Awards 2017

Humanities Travelling Fellowships: Offers grants of up to $4,000 to support Australian early career researchers in the Humanities to undertake research overseas, including accessing archives and other research materials and connecting with international researchers and networks.

David Philips Travelling Fellowship: Proposals that contribute to the advancement of knowledge of racial, religious or ethnic prejudice will be considered for the David Philips Fellowship.

Publication Subsidy Scheme: The Publication Subsidy Scheme offers grants of up to $3,000 to support the publication of high quality works by Australia-based humanities scholars.

Ernst & Rosemarie Keller Award: Offers up to $5,000 to support the research activities of scholars, resident in Australia, whose research is concerned with German history, literature, language, politics or culture, or German contributions to the history, literature, languages, politics or culture of either Australia or the Asia-Pacific region.

Deadline for all the above AAH grants and awards is: 5:00pm AEST 29 March, 2017
