The Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies (FRIAS) is the University of Freiburg’s international research college. The Institute supports innovative research projects through individual fellowships.

The Freiburg Institute for Advanced Studies announces the following individual FCFP fellowships for the academic year 2017/18:

(Fellowships start: September 1, 2017)

• Junior fellowships (completed PhD plus one to six years post-doctoral experience)
• Senior fellowships (completed PhD plus a minimum of six years post-doctoral experience or a tenured professorship or equivalent permanent position)

The FCFP is intended for current or future leaders in their fields. About 25 FCFP fellowships are awarded through a highly competitive, strictly merit-based selection process. Applications are invited from academics of all nationalities and all disciplines. Note, however, that during the 3-year period prior to the application deadline, applicants may not have resided or have carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc) in Germany for more than a total of 12 months.

Fellowships of 3 to 10 months in the Senior scheme and of 12 months in the Junior scheme may be applied for. They will allow researchers to conduct their own research projects. Fellowships are awarded to individuals with challenging and innovative research projects of high academic quality. The determining selection criteria are the academic excellence of both the applicant and of the project proposal. Personal qualifications with regard to international expertise, leadership skills and interdisciplinary interest are also taken into account during the evaluation of the applications. Application is open to proposals from all disciplines that can be supported at the University of Freiburg.

Successful applicants will become FRIAS fellows. Each fellow will receive an internationally attractive living allowance (Junior: E 13 TV-L, ca. 54.000 € p. a. pre-tax; Senior: W3-equivalent professorial salary, ca. 80.000 € p. a. pre-tax, additional regulations apply for applicants with unlimited work contracts at their home institution), mobility allowance and a research cost contribution (theoretical sciences: up to 450 € per month, experimental sciences: up to 1.050 € per month). A mentoring program is put in place for each Junior Fellow in her/his career development.

FRIAS unites research in the humanities and social sciences, the natural and life sciences, engineering and medicine. It is the aim of the Institute to support academic exchange across existing boundaries: between disciplines, between different cultures and countries, between established and younger researchers.

The institute provides its fellows with modern office space and an up-to-date infrastructure. Fellows have full access to all library services from one of the leading German university libraries. Special attention is given to fellows who plan to come to Freiburg together with their families. FRIAS makes every effort to provide tailor-made solutions with regard to suitable accommodation, child care and educational facilities.

The FCFP call for applications is co-financed by the European Union’s Seventh Framework Program (FP7) “Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions – People” (co-funding of regional, national and international programs) and the State of Baden-Württemberg.

A Humboldt Research Fellowship for postdoctoral researchers allows you to carry out long-term research (6-24 months) in Germany. Applicants choose their own topic of research and their academic host. Submit an application if you are a researcher from abroad with above average qualifications, at the beginning of your academic career and only completed your doctorate in the last four years.

Scientists and scholars of all nationalities and disciplines may apply to the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation online at any time. The Humboldt Foundation grants approximately 500 Humboldt Research Fellowships for postdoctoral researchers and experienced researchers annually. Short-term study visits, participation in congresses and training courses cannot be financed.

The National Humanities Center is a private, non-profit organization, and the only independent institute dedicated exclusively to advanced study in all areas of the humanities.

The National Humanities Center invites applications for academic-year or one-semester residencies. Fellowship applicants must have a PhD or equivalent scholarly credentials.

Mid-career as well as senior scholars from all areas of the humanities are welcome; emerging scholars with a strong record of peer-reviewed work are also invited to apply. The Center does not normally support the revision of a doctoral dissertation. CMRS Visiting Scholar Program 2016

The Centre for Medieval and Renaissance Studies at Monash University is pleased to call for applications to our Visiting Scholar Program for 2016. The aim of the program is to support a senior academic to visit the CMRS for one week, during which time he or she will provide a postgraduate training workshop, consult with CMRS students and deliver a seminar paper on his or her own research.

For the purposes of the program, a CMRS Visiting Scholar should hold an academic position of Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, Professor or Emeritus/a Professor at an academic institution.

CMRS Visiting Scholars will be expected to engage fully in the activities of the CMRS for the duration of their stay. Specifically, a CMRS Visiting Scholar will be invited to deliver a postgraduate training seminar or workshop on an empirical, theoretical or methodological aspect of interest to advanced students of medieval and Renaissance studies, such as palaeography, codicology, theoretical approaches to medieval and Renaissance history etc. The CMRS Visiting Scholar will also be invited to present a seminar paper on an aspect of his or her research, and attend other CMRS events of relevance during their visit to Monash.

One CMRS Visiting Scholar will be appointed each year to visit the CMRS at Monash University’s Clayton campus in August. The CMRS will provide the Visiting Scholar with five night’s accommodation in Melbourne (Monday to Saturday morning) and transport to and from Monash’s Clayton campus. For senior scholars already in Australia or NZ, the CMRS will provide a return economy airfare to Melbourne. Total funding support may be up to but not exceeding AUD2000.00.

We welcome applications from eligible academics for 2016 by June 1, 2016. Applicants should send a cover letter, a short CV, and a brief outline of the workshop they propose to convene and a potential seminar paper topic to Associate Professor Megan Cassidy-Welch (megan.cassidy-welch@monash.edu).

The Istituto Sangalli per la storia e le culture religiose (Florence, Italy) is very proud to inform the scientific community the start of the program “Florence Short Term Fellowships in Religious History and Religious Studies”.

Our aim is to attract international scholars of every nationality based in Universities and research Centers outside of Italy, or who have an equivalent record of international scholarship, with our short term residential fellowships in Florence. The purpose of the program is to promote exemplary interdisciplinary research in Religious History and Religious Studies (Inter-religious Dialogue, Theology, Arts, Music, Sociology etc.). Candidates for the fellowships must have a record of scholarship in Religious History or in Religious Studies, and must have held the Ph.D. for 10 years or more before this call or possess an equivalent record of international scholarship.

The Australia-Germany Joint Research Co-operation Scheme is a joint initiative of Universities Australia and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Germany’s national agency for the support of international academic cooperation.

It aims to foster research collaboration of the highest quality between Australian researchers from Universities Australia member universities and German researchers from German universities and research institutes.

The scheme will support exchanges for Australian researchers to spend time at partner institutions in Germany and for collaborating German researchers to spend time at Australian universities. Researchers must be working on a joint research project with their German counterparts, rather than simply furthering their own individual research in Germany.

The support of early career researchers and junior scholars is a significant focus of this scheme.

Australian applicants must be:

• employed as an academic staff member in a teaching and research or research only role at the Australian university administering the application and with a contract at that university that is valid for the duration of the relevant funding period; or
• enrolled for the duration of the relevant funding period as a PhD or Research Masters student at the Australian university administering the application and part of a research project application submitted by an eligible staff member at that same university.

The scheme is open to Australian researchers at participating Australian universities in all academic fields involved in a collaborative project with German research partners.

Proposals must provide opportunities for exchanges between early career researchers. However it is not compulsory to be an ECR to apply. Researchers from the Humanities and Social Sciences are encouraged to apply.
